Wild Sea Money was the title of Vasco Barata’s exhibition at Sismógrafo, an independente artists’ space in Porto. The artist’s work crosses references as James Joyce’s “Ulysses”, the logo of the punk band Black Flag or Thoreau’s “Walden”, the wilderness of nature meets the urban backpacker. “Portrait of a landscape on the verge of extinction, hard-core abstractionism: an exhibition made by an hiker that, beyond beauty, can see the simulacra of our civilization.” This catalogue features essays by curator João Silvério and Sismógrafo’s artistic director Óscar Faria and several installation views.
