The project Without Mercy continues this week at Gato Vadio, in Porto, with a series of talks through which it is intended not only to recall some of the most relevant aspects of PREC (Ongoing Revolutionary Process, from April 25 1974 to November 25 1975 ) – from the right to housing to the parties in the streets – but also reflect on the current state of the country in different areas of everyday life, such as unemployment, urban planning, music or art. It is the desire to brush history against the grain that is in the basis of this talk series, a task inherited from Benjamin's thesis; counter current, therefore.
We will also take this occasion to present the text The unpredictable, our fertile ground by Jorge Valadas, a version of an earlier essay now adapted to the Portuguese context: "The past that interests us is that which was a carrier of a different future, of possibles, not a past that provides a justification to the present as it is, inevitable, final, insurmountable. Our past is a past that has not passed, it is always there, current."
