The monte is not a concrete location, but an intermediate territory — between the natural and the humanised, between the visible and the undefined. More than a geography, it is a border condition, where various forces cross and continue to negotiate space, memory and time. I always return to that semi-wilderness [meio-ermo]. It’s where everything remains in orbit, despite the dispersion. 

Alexandre Delmar (Porto, 1982) is a visual artist and founder of the project A Recoletora. He lives and works between the city of Esposende and the village of Lagoa, in Trás-os-Montes. His artistic practice, centred around photography, video, sound, text, and installation, stems from the relationship with the rural territory to investigate the dynamics of loss and cultural transformation, articulating questions of materiality, food subsistence, memory and communication.
