Within the context of Francisca Carvalho´s Three Sisters exhibition, Marta Leite will lead an activity focusing on her research into natural dyeing. The workshop How many colors does a plant offer? aims to explore dyeing techniques using dyes extracted from plants. The differences between animal and vegetable fibers will be discussed, as well as recipes for preparing and fixing fibers in color baths. The activity includes the creation of several fabric samples dyed with a single plant, which participants can later take home.
Marta Leite is an artist. She works primarily in drawing, painting, installation, and textiles. Her recurring themes are landscape and the human relationship with fleeting, transitory and ephemeral events, problematizing these issues through the use of organic materials. Her current artistic research focuses on textiles, particularly in relation to natural dyeing. She completed her BA and MA in Sculpture and Related Fields at the Berlin University of the Arts (2010). She is currently a PhD student in Media Arts at the University of Beira Interior and an artist-researcher at i*Artes, the PArTE laboratory and the REVIVE project. She has been exhibiting regularly since 2006.
