From the exhibition Complex Places, and after a guided tour of its inner-spaces, artist Rebecca Moradalizadeh takes us on a journey between “this place” and its displacement. In what measure can food be a part of a community’s identity? Bringing to light one of life’s essentials, we reflect on migration paths, individual and collective identities, corporeal and verbal forms of language and communication, as a way of questioning the places in which we find ourselves now and those where we came from. Sharing our personal experiences, we expose the (in)visibilities, and representational perceptions of the places we inhabit, and there come new (re)cognitions, (re)learnings, (re)adaptations. In this workshop, participants are invited to bring a special food element they can identify with and would like to share.
Rebecca Moradalizadeh (London, 1989), a Portuguese Iranian artist, performer, and art educator, lives and works in Porto. Her work explores performance art, video, photography, installation, drawing and gastronomy, focusing on issues related to the body, identity, territory, memory, archive, and traces, highlighting LandMarks Series, an autobiographical research project started in 2015, associated with obtaining and recognizing her Iranian citizenship.
