A exposição de Gerry Bibby e Henrik Olesen no Sismógrafo tem o seu ponto de partida no diálogo, na troca enquanto assunto, em acordos e os seus opostos. O gosto supõe conflito, estruturas de juízo proliferam – preto/branco, polegar para cima / polegar para baixo, sim não, mas não mas sim. Esta exposição alimenta-se de expectativas e derrapagens produtivas; atracção e des-identificação. Apresentam-se trabalhos inéditos, integralmente produzidos no Porto.

GERRY BIBBY (Austrália, 1977) vive e trabalha em Berlim. Os seus projetos a solo recentes incluem uma oficina e a apresentação IDEAS PLATFORM Flexing Muscle (com o Bureau of Writing), no Art Space, em Sydney, como parte da 20ª Bienal de Sydney (2016), bem como uma residência no Chipre com a exposição Yes No Future, no Point Center for Contemporary Art, em Nicosia, Chipre (2015). Em 2014, Bibby teve exposições individuais com a galeria Silberkuppe em Berlim, a Galeria Deborah Schamoni em Munique, e a exposição Combination Boiler no The Showroom, em Londres. Juntamente com Juliette Blightman foi convidado para KUB Arena, Kunsthaus Bregenz, onde também começou a escrever em seu primeiro livro Drumhead, publicado pela Sternberg Press, Berlim em 2014. Entre as exposições colectivas recentes contam-se Textilities... and Roses too, na Fondazione Ratti, Como, Itália, Playing Pool with Eggs na Galerie Bernhard, em Zurique, e Re-XXXcovery VI, no Autocenter, em Berlim, entre outras. Participou também na extensa exposição colectiva Abandon the parents, no Statens Museum for Kunst, em Copenhaga, com curadoria de Henrik Olesen (2014). O artista desenvolveu ainda um trabalho para a Frieze Projects London, e participou na Bienal de Lyon em 2013. É colaborador regular da Starship, uma revista de arte baseada em Berlim, que é co-publicada semestralmente, desde 2014, por Nikola Dietrich, Martin Ebner, Ariane Müller, e Henrik Olesen.

HENRIK OLESEN (Dinamarca, 1967) vive e trabalha em Berlim. Realizou recentemente duas exposições individuais paralelas na Gallery Buchholz e Reena Spaulings, em Nova Iorque. Outras apresentações a solo incluem: Museum Ludwig/Wolfgang-Hahn-Price, em Colónia (2012), MoMA - Projects 94, em Nova Iorque (2011), Museum für Gegenwartskunst, em Basileia (2011), Malmö Konsthall, em Malmö (2010), Portikus, em Frankfurt (com Judith Hopf) (2007), Migros Museum für Gegenwartskunst, em Zurique (2007). O artista participa na recente exposição colectiva L'image volée na Fondazione Prada, com curadoria de Thomas Demand. O seu trabalho foi mostrado ainda nas exposições Alfred Jarry Arquipélago, La Ferme Du Buisson, em Noisiel, França (2015), Slip of the Tongue, Punta della Dogana, em Veneza (2015), Bienal de Veneza, em Veneza (2013), The New Museum, em Nova Iorque (2012), Generali Foundation, em Viena (2012), e Pinakothek der Moderne, em Munique (2012), entre outras. Olesen foi curador da mostra colectiva Abandon the parents, no Statens Museum for Kunst, em Copenhaga (2014). As suas publicações monográficas abrangem What is authority?, Pork Salad Press; Some Faggy Gestures, Migros Museum für Gegenwartskunst; How do I make myself a body?, Malmö Konsthall e Museum für Gegenwartskunst, Basel; et al. NIKOLA DIETRICH (Alemanha, 1972) é uma curadora e historiadora de arte baseada em Berlim. Formou-se na Humboldt University of Berlin e trabalhou na galeria Klosterfelde em Berlin, antes de se mudar para Amesterdão onde frequentou o De Appel Curatorial Program em 2001. Posteriormente, fez parte do curators’ workshop, fundado por René Block na Kunsthalle Fridericianum, onde co-organizou exposições com Terry Fox, e fez a curadoria de In the Gorges of the Balkans. Dietrich foi a curadora do Portikus, em Frankfurt, de 2004 a 2007, onde realizou mais de 20 exposições acompanhadas por publicações, entre as quais se contam os projectos com Francis Alÿs, Akram Zaatari, John Baldessari, Judith Hopf, Paulina Olowska e Bonnie Camplin. Tornou-se depois curadora principal no Museu de Arte Contemporânea de Basileia até 2013, onde concebeu exposições com Hilary Lloyd, Henrik Olesen, Tim Rollins & K.O.S., e a amplamente reconhecida Tell It to My Heart. Collected by Julie Ault, entre muitas outras. É co-editora da Starship desde 2014, uma revista de arte publicada semestralmente em Berlim.

The exhibition of Gerry Bibby and Henrik Olesen at Sismógrafo takes its starting point in conversation, in exchange as a subject, in agreements and their opposites. Taste presumes conflict, structures of judgement proliferating – black/white, thumbs up / thumbs down, yes no, but no but yes. This exhibition feeds on expectations and productive slippages; attraction and mis-recognition. Presenting new works, entirely produced in Porto.

GERRY BIBBY (Australia, 1977) lives and works in Berlin. NIKOLA DIETRICH (Germany, 1972) is a Berlin based art historian and curator. She graduated from the Humboldt University of Berlin and worked at gallery Klosterfelde in Berlin, before she moved to Amsterdam where she attended the De Appel Curatorial Program in 2001. Afterwards, she was part of the curators’ workshop, founded by René Block in the Kunsthalle Fridericianum, where she co-curated exhibitions with Terry Fox, and the substantial exhibition “In the Gorges of the Balkans”.
